The Teenage Cancer Trust unit at UCLH for cancer patients aged between 12 and 19 offers a teen-friendly environment, sensitive to social and psychological needs whilst delivering state of the art clinical care and facilities.

As it was important to ensure that the teenagers had the opportunity to personalise their own spaces, both patients and parents contributed to design workshops at the briefing and concept stages of the process.

At the time, the materials and FF&E selections pushed the boundaries of normal hospital specification whilst conforming to strict Infection Control constraints and robust maintenance procedures, whilst slotting the changes into the large rolling PFI build for UCLH.

Teenage Cancer Trust Unit was awarded 'Best Patient Environment' at the Building Better Healthcare Awards.

“We are thrilled to have been recognised for the outstanding and innovative units we are building. The unit at University College Hospital combines essential clinical function with cutting edge design… Huge thanks go to the Interior Architects who designed the internal features of the unit. They really took our philosophy on board and engaged patients and staff. They have given us a unit of which we are enormously proud.”
