The complete reconfiguration, design and refurbishment of the Level 6 Paediatrics Ward at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead was integrated in 2 stages to enable easy decanting of beds and adjacent clinical facilities in a phased way. It was important that we addressed the varying and complex needs of the paediatrics’ demographic through the provision of suitable, age-appropriate facilities.
Located within a hospital tower and therefore requiring careful design co-ordination to support its delivery, the project required completely new M&E Services throughout (including all new ceiling & lighting specifications), a complete reconfiguration of its single bedrooms, double and 4 bed bays and ensuites (to comply with current standards and to create more inspiring and ‘fit-for-purpose’ accommodation), the provision of new play, dining & flexible, multi-purpose space, adolescent, parent & interview rooms and much needed staff touch down pods.
Extensive staff and user consultation has resulted in a final solution that everyone has contributed towards and can feel proud of.
